RMP Electrical: Services

General electrical work

Day-to-day repairs, additions and small jobs around the home or business.

Not every job needs a long preamble. If something electrical in your home needs doing and you are not sure where it fits, this is the page. We handle the full range of smaller domestic electrical jobs alongside the bigger ones.

The range of work we take on

Jobs in this category include:

  • Fitting new light fittings and ceiling roses
  • Replacing switches and sockets
  • Connecting cookers and ovens to existing circuits
  • Fitting extractor fans in bathrooms and kitchens
  • Wiring doorbells and video entry systems
  • Connecting immersion heaters and electric showers to existing circuits
  • Fitting and testing smoke alarms to BS 5839-6
  • Adding a garden tap supply
  • Fitting PIR security lights
  • Checking and re-terminating loose or arcing connections

How we quote smaller jobs

We quote all jobs at a fixed price before starting. For straightforward work where the scope is clear, we can usually give a price over the phone or by message. For jobs that depend on what we find when we open things up, we will quote on site before starting any work.

We do not charge a call-out fee. If we attend and the job is different from what was described and you decide not to proceed, you pay nothing.

What we bring on a first visit

We carry the materials and tools for the most common small jobs. For straightforward fitting replacements, we can usually complete the job on the first visit without needing to return. For anything more involved, we will agree a date for a second visit before we leave.

Minor works certificates

Smaller jobs that do not require a full Electrical Installation Certificate still need to be documented correctly. We issue a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate for qualifying work. This covers you for insurance purposes and records the work correctly. It is the document your solicitor will ask for if the work is flagged during a future property sale.

When to call rather than book online

For anything that sounds urgent, call rather than message. If a circuit is tripping, there is a burning smell, or you cannot isolate a fault, call the number on this page and we will advise immediately on whether it needs a same-day visit.

Common questions

What kinds of small jobs do you take on?
Replacing sockets and switches, adding a fused spur, fitting light fittings, tracking down a single fault, fitting a shaver socket, installing an outdoor socket, and similar small domestic jobs that do not require a full day's work.
Is there a minimum charge or call-out fee?
We price by the job after a brief conversation about what is needed. There is no surprise call-out fee on top of the quoted price.
Do small jobs need a certificate?
Minor works in certain locations require a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate. We issue this on completion. Keep it for your records and for when you sell the property.
Can you inspect a property I am thinking of buying?
Yes. A formal EICR gives a full condition report on the fixed installation. We can also carry out an informal visit if you want a rough picture before exchange.
How quickly can you come out?
For non-urgent small jobs, usually within a few days. For faults where you have lost power to a circuit, a socket is sparking, or there is a burning smell, we treat those as same-day where possible.

What people say

Trusted across the Thames Valley.

Came and installed outside sockets for me. Was a lovely guy, came on time and did a good job. The price was reasonable compared to some of the quotes I got from other companies. Would really recommend. Will call for work in the future as good tradespeople can be hard to find.
